On Friday afternoon, Year 5 hosted the exit point for our topic "Roots, Fruits and Shoots".

We had a competition to see who could make the most impressive seed dispensing machine- that would actually travel down the ramp!

A big thank you to all the parents who came - the hall was full of activity.  Mums, dads, grandparents, extended family members all arrived to help the children in their task. We had a great afternoon. It was impossible to pick a winner because there were so many impressive machines by the end of the afternoon.

Our fabulous afternoon making seed dispensing machines! They all worked when tested on the ramp!

Some of the seed dispensing machines the Y5 children have created as part of their home learning project.

The drumming continues....... We're getting better at watching and listening!

Y5 started their djembe drumming this afternoon. We'll be working with Dave Cook to learn all about this type of drumming and to practise playing.

5SC have been busy making a start on their Sunflower paintings this afternoon.

Just Dance! Year 5 took their turn to raise money by dancing and having fun.

'Roots, Shoots and Fruits' is our exciting new unit in year 5. We are going to grow lots of different plants and vegetables in our allotment plots. We have made a great start!

Our garden plots are finally ready for us to plant the seeds!

We invited family into school to taste and evaluate our bread.

Year 5 enjoyed baking bread for their parents to try.

5SS completed their Bikeability training last week. Everyone did a brilliant job - the coaches were very impressed with the wonderful behaviour of our pupils.

5SC completed their bikeability this week. They were all brilliant and have learnt how to stay safe when riding on the road.

We had great fun on World Book Day dressing up as our favourite book characters, decorating our classroom doors and doing Literacy, Maths and Art activities based on our class book "The Tear Thief".

We turned into molecules on the playground to help us to understand changing states between liquids, solids and gases.

We spent a great afternoon in the hall tasting breads from around the world as part of our new topic "Bake It!". We had to comment on the smell, texture and taste of the bread, as well as other information we could find out. We also had to give it a star rating!

We work together to assess each others work. This helps us to share ideas, find mistakes and talk about our work with a friend.

Wearing red and working hard!

Using bar models to solve Maths problems!

Learning to learn! Year 5 all had to teach each other a skill. We thought about what made a good teacher and a good learner. We made our own success criteria so we could assess each other's learning.

Year 5 created mind-maps to help us understand how the brain makes connections.

We acted out part of our class text 'Extreme Animals' and discussed our speaking and listening skills.

Year 5 have working hard in literacy and numeracy - especially when creating their own comic strip linked to the class book 'Extreme Animals'.

Some of the fabulous models children created at home as part of our Earth and Space topic.
