Q Matrix

The Q Matrix (in which 'Q' stands for 'question') comprises six question starters: what, where, when, which, who, why and how, which are combined with six verbs – is, did, can, would, will and might. This creates the potential for 36 different combinations of question starters.

The matrix is used by teachers and pupils to generate questions to stimulate different types of thinking across all levels of Bloom's taxonomy and can be used for any topic. This helps construct increasingly more complex questions that can challenge pupils to think more critically.
