Allergy Safety at Our Academy

From September 2026, all schools are required by law to have a dedicated allergy safety policy. This includes ensuring that all staff receive appropriate training in allergy awareness and emergency response, and that spare adrenaline auto-injectors are available for use in an emergency.

These requirements, commonly known as Benedict’s Law, are set out in the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026.

At Old Clee Primary Academy, every member of staff receives annual allergy awareness and emergency response training. We also hold spare adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens) and asthma inhalers on site, which are also taken with us on all school trips and educational visits.

An Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) is in place for every pupil with a known allergy that falls within the scope of the guidance. The Headteacher is the Academy’s Designated Allergy Safety Lead, with overall responsibility for ensuring that our allergy safety arrangements are implemented effectively.
