Music in Y1

Making sounds with a violin

Today, we got the chance discover some new instruments.

This week, we are learning to compose rhythms, using crotchets and quavers. We then added instruments to create some very groovy rhythms!

We tested our rhythm composition using castanets and sleigh bells.

We tried our composition on scrapers. We liked it so much, we added a repeat symbol.

We liked how our rhythm composition sounded so much, we added more to make it longer.

We used a tambourine and a castanet to play our rhythm. It's hard to stay in time!

We used a shaker and a castanet. It sounded great, so we decided to add a repeat symbol!

We played it over again, and we loved how it sounded!

Everybody, Conga!

Here are 1AR enjoying a Conga line. They are using their skills with rhythm to move to the music, and step and kick in time to the music, while singing at the same time.

We have been composing our own body percussion in year 1, and have practised them with the music Dance Monkey.

Year 1 Percussion

Look at 1AW! They are waiting for their time to play. Look how well they are concentrating, making sure they play their part accurately. Well done 1AW!

Music in the playground, on a lovely sunny day! We had ukuleles and percussion bells to experiment with and made some lovely music.
