Our proud Academy Councillors in their golden jumpers!
The Academy's Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run.
The Academy Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made within the academy. Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.
Our councillors are great SUPERB citizens!
At Old Clee Primary Academy we use the platform 'Smart School Council' which plays an important part in making sure all children across the academy have a voice. We are keen for children to lead whole academy initiatives, make decisions and plan for the future.
Each class from Year 1 through to Year 6 hold pupil-led meetings roughly twice a term. These are led by our councillors in their classes and are based around a single question that small groups (of varying sizes) discuss and vote on. Votes are then entered into a tool for our teachers and senior leaders to analyse.
Each question is actioned. The action is shared with all the children at the next meeting. Sometimes action teams are needed, whereby our councillors may split into smaller groups to organise an event or try and improve something about the academy. The action teams have an important job of representing their peers and actioning ideas pupils have come up with.
