Learning about the brain

Throughout the year, our children have explored and developed the key messages from 'Your Fantastic Elastic Brain' by JoAnn Deak. At the beginning of each academic year, the book helps pupils understand how their brains grow and strengthen when they learn new things, practise skills, and persevere through challenges. Through regular discussions, activities, and reflections, children have developed a growth mindset, learning that mistakes are valuable opportunities for learning and that effort helps build new connections in the brain. This shared learning journey has encouraged resilience, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning across the academy.
