Welcome to Year 1

Today

is a great day to learn something

new!

Our team...

1JL - Mrs Leader and Mrs Adams

1AR - Mrs Rytting and Mrs Hersey

Daily Routines

Please ensure that your child brings the following to school daily:

  • Yellow home (school) contact book
  • Green reading record book
  • School reading book (RWI Book Bag Book)
  • Library book
  • Waterproof coat/jacket
  • Water bottle

It is very important that your child remembers to bring their yellow book to school everyday. This is used to communicate messages between school and home. Please ensure if there are any changes in your child's home time arrangements you write this in. Spelling test scores will also be added to the book weekly.

PE Days

PE is on a Tuesday each week. Please ensure your child comes to school on this day dressed in PE kit and that it is in line with the school uniform policy. Please bare in mind we will try and do PE outside whenever possible so a jacket or jumper will be needed.

Please remember to remove all jewellery on PE days.

Each Friday the children will be given their homework. Year One homework will focus on reading, spelling/phonics and maths. The homework is as follows:

  • spelling/handwriting practice

In PE we are looking at object control. We thought of ways we could move whilst balancing the bean bag on different body parts. We learned lots of ball skills and are starting to put a routine together to music ... watch this space!

In DT we have designed a hand puppet. Today we used a running stitch to join the 2 pieces of material together. Next week we will decorate it to look like our character design.

They enjoyed acting out their very own poem The Bus Ride (see school videos for our recordings). The children are also learning a poem about the seasons to link with their science called Autumn is here ( video to follow shortly)

Being scientists - investigating materials. The children were able to identify items in the classroom made of wood, plastic, glass, metal and rock.

Acting out the Great Fure of London. Someone was the flame trying to get through the houses which were contested and too close together. We saw how the fire spread quickly back in 1666. We then spread out to represent the hoses in 2023 and looked how the fire can travel between the houses.

Being A Writer. We have been looking at clues to decide what characters our new text is going to have. Can you guess them?

Being a Designer - this week we continued our topic on structures. We learned how to strengthen a tower structure and make it more stable using a ‘flange’.
