Year 5

Curriculum

 

This coming term, Year 5 will be learning about lots of exciting things. In our literacy lessons, our class books will be ‘Inside the Villains’ by Clotilde Perrin (fiction); ‘The Lost Words’ by Robert Macfarlane (poetry); ‘A Wizard of Earthsea’ by Ursula Le Guin (fiction); and ‘Volcanoes’ by Izzi Howell (non-fiction). Maths will see us take a tour of formal written methods, fractions, geometry and measurements. In our Geography lessons we will be revisiting South America and The Water Cycle with different learning focuses as well as conducting fieldwork recording cloud formations! History will see us going on an exciting trip to Gainsborough Old Hall to immerse ourselves in Tudor life, whilst in our DT time we will be designing, making and evaluating kites. Art will see us studying the classic French sculptor Auguste Rodin and during Science we shall be learning all about life cycles and life processes, solids, liquids and gases, aspects of our solar system and the effects of air and water resistance and friction.
