Reception

This term our topic will be focused around winter. Our focused author for the half term will be Martin Waddell.

Literacy

In literacy, we are going to be exploring the winter season and writing about the signs of winter. We will be reading lots of winter stories such ‘Jack Frost’ and ‘The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud’. We will also be learning about polar animals and writing about our favourite Frozen characters.

Maths

In maths, we will be consolidating our number recognition and careful counting skills.

We will be learning our doubles facts and our number bonds to 10. We will also be practising finding one less and solving simple subtraction problems.

HOME PROJECT If you would like an extra challenge with your child you can create a 3D snowman model at home. Please bring them into class this half term to share and display in our classroom.

How you can help at home

To help your child at home you can share stories together each night. We are always keen to work in partnership with parents and the more you can support your child with their homework, the more prepared they will be in their learning journey. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with us if you wish for further help and support with home learning – we can always offer ideas and advice to make learning fun at home!

Please continue to encourage your child to practise writing their full name at home. If you can help your child to hold a pencil correctly when writing, this will help with letter formation. Please remember to practise writing numerals with your child too. When you are out and about, counting things you see and looking for numbers as well as shapes around you will also support your child with their mathematical development. Please encourage your child to use a knife and fork when eating their dinner and to be independent when opening snack/food packets. Please ensure your child is dressing themselves and gaining independence when putting on and taking off jumpers, cardigans and coats
