Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

3RJ - Mrs Johnson

3AA - Mrs Airey

3LR - Miss Blake

A big hello and warm welcome from the Year 3 team! We look forward to sharing all of our wonderful learning with you all!

Daily Routines

Please ensure that your child brings their yellow home/school contact book to school every day. This book is used to communicate messages between school and home. Please also use this to communicate any changes in your child's home time arrangements. Your child will also record their weekly test scores within this book too.

Please can you also ensure that your child brings their reading record, ZPD reading book and their library book to school each day. Your child will receive these during the first two weeks back.

PE

Please come to school in the appropriate PE kit every Monday (3AA & 3LR ) or Wednesday (3RJ) unless told otherwise. Please check the uniform policy for the full list of appropriate kit. Earrings must be removed on PE days unless pupils are able to remove them themselves.

Homework

Your child will be tested on a Friday (weekly) on both their spellings and personal times tables.

Please ensure that your child goes onto times table rockstars at least once a week. This is an important requirement of their homework. If you have any problems with logging on then please speak to your child's teacher.

Your child will also be asked to learn and practise their KIRFS (Key instant recall facts). These will be tested every 2 weeks. Cycle 1 will be the first KIRFS tested, moving through to cycle 3 and then 5 and so on, every two weeks.

Reading Challenge

We have introduced new reading records to children this year that will relate to reading around the UK! The children have been set a challenge to read a hundred books before the end of the school year. These books will be books provided by school and read at school or at home. Please do not record when you have read with the children in these books as this is purely to record the names of the books given to your child at school. Any extra book titles read at home can be recorded at the back of the record.

Sports day!

Well done Year 3 for such a fantastic sports day! You worked so well as a team and took part in many challenging sports! You are all fabulous winners!

Well done to these children who have achieved their superb rewards from our vending machine!

WORLD BOOK DAY!

We took part in loads of fun activities to celebrate World Book Day! We were delighted to welcome into the Academy, Bethany Walker, a local author who shared with us her journey and tips to becoming an author. Alongside this, the children have taken part in an exciting book swap as well as sharing our outstanding number of entries to the Book in a Jar competition! We’ve also taken part in lots of book talk, teacher reading swaps and even becoming authors ourselves! We had an amazing day!

WORLD RELIGION DAY

Over two days, our children investigated the Sikh religion, taking part in many activities such as:

1. RESEARCH   2. CRAFT    3. DRAMA     4. FOOD     5. DANCE    6. ART

There was a real buzz in our area of the school, with children working in mixed groups and with different teachers.

Just a reminder for parents during the Christmas period :)

Year 3 had a fantastic day dressing up and raising money for Children in Need

We had a visit from the Grimsby Fire and Rescue. They came to talk to us about how to stay safe on Firework night and what to do in an emergency.

Well done to these children who have received their pen licence so far this year!
