Recap: What is an adaptation?
An adaptation is a special skill which helps an animal to survive and do everything it needs to do. Adaptations could be physical changes to the animal’s body or behavioural changes in how an individual animal or a society do things in their daily lives.
“How has it adapted?” This animal has adapted by…
This section requires you to explain how the animals have adapted- for example: a polar bear has large white fur, a layer of fat and large feet.
“Why has it adapted this way?”
On this section, think about which BIOMES the animals are located in- for example: why would a polar bear find these adaptations useful in the TUNDRA biome?
Example Answer: “I think this animal has adapted like this because the adaptations would be useful in the Tundra biome. The polar bear’s layer of fat will ensure that they are kept warm, especially because the tundra can reach freezing temperatures. The white fur will not only help them to keep warm, but would also act as a camouflage, as they are surrounded by snow- this would mean they are harder to spot by potential predators, but also, more importantly for the polar bear, they can be undetected when they are hunting for food.
