Please ensure your child brings a bottle of plain water to nursery every day. This will be left in their individual locker and can be used throughout the day whilst they are at nursery. (Full time children may also bring juice to have at lunchtime, this will be kept in their lunch box.)
PE is on a FRIDAY. Please ensure your child comes to nursery wearing their PE kit. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with their name.
REMINDER -no jewellery is to be worn whilst in nursery. If children come to school wearing jewellery they will be asked to remove it. If it cannot be removed you will be called to assist.
This week we have been partaking in activities relating to Pudsey Bear. We have spoken to the children about what Children in Need is and why we raise money at this time. The children wore Pusdey clothes, pyjamas, fancy dress or spotty clothes for a small donation.
As part of anti-bullying week, today we wore odd socks. We spoke to the children about us all being kind to one another, and that we are all different, but that is okay. We then spoke about similarities and differences between us all, and that it is okay to be different, and we must be kind. We finished off by looking at everyone's odd socks.
In Nursery we have touched upon Remembrance Day and explained to the children that it is a day where we remember people who have fought for our country. We watched the Poppy Day animation on CBeebies and created our own poppies to lay in our garden, remembering the people and animals in the wars.
Today we had a visit from some firefighters to talk to us about fire safety. Firefighter Steve and Firefighter Mick spoke to us about how to keep safe at Bonfire night and around fire. We learnt some top tips:
1. Make sure we wear coats, gloves, boots and wrap up for the cold weather if we go to a bonfire.
2. Make sure you stay with your grown ups at all times.
3. Stay back from the bonfire
4. Never touch or pick up a firework
5. If using sparklers only ever do one at a time.
We also spoke about what to do if we were to get a spark or fire on our clothes, we should not panic and STOP, DROP AND ROLL. We all practiced this in the hall.
Firefighter Steve also told us what to do if we were to get lost when at a Bonfire, and that we should find the nearest adult to help us.
We all then went outside and met some more firefighters who let us have a go at using the fire hose. We heard the loud siren and watched the flashing lights
The children have been taking part is some lovely activities this week, which has sparked conversations around pumpkins, bats, Halloween and Diwali. We have discussed what Diwali is, and how this is typically celebrated.
We have been learning about the festival of light, Diwali. We have spoken to the children about traditions, such as lighting Diya lamps to bring good luck, having a feast with the whole family and watching fireworks as they celebrate. The children have explored creating their own Bengali patterns. We used the story Peppa's Diwali to talk to the children about this festival.
This week in nursery we have been learning lots about Autumn and Harvest. We have continued to explore different autumnal objects, talking about how they feel and what they look like. We have discussed why farmers use scarecrows and linked this to our home project. We have also been talking about Harvest, what this is and the differing vegetables that can be harvested. We have used vegetables in our play and is helping us with labelling the different vegetables.
We have been talking about Autumn and how this may look to us. We have read the story 'The leaf thief' which is an amazing story about how the wind 'steals' the leaves from trees as they are blown down from the trees in Autumn.
We went for an Autumn walk around the school grounds to look for signs of Autumn, we found lots of Autumnal objects and spoke about how each item felt when we got back to nursery.
We have also encouraged children to find and collect Autumnal objects with their families, and they have been bringing them into nursery to create an Autumn sensory table.
In Nursery we have been exploring colour and emotions through our story, 'The Colour Monster'. The children have become really enthused and understand which emotion each colour represents. We have had some fantastic ideas on why they feel a certain emotion. We created our own colour monsters too, using different painting, printing or collage techniques.
On Fridays we take part in a physical development programme called Squiggle whilst you Wiggle. Firstly we use long ribbons, one in each hand to practice large movements along with some funky music. We then put those movements to the paper, using a crayon in each hand. All of the children had a good go and practiced up, down and across movements. Using their gross motor movements will help the children in building up essential muscles needed in the future for their mark making and writing.
All of the children have had an amazing first couple of weeks at nursery, and they have all settled well. Look at all of the fun and learning that has been taking place!
